OK, no one has mentioned the VOD (set for tuesday the 11th) thing too much here, so I thought I'd kidnap a post form another thread . . . enjoy.

"Is there any other company in the world that could be the "single global Internet platform" that Vodafone teased us with on Friday? According to the press release by Vodafone, they will be announcing on Tuesday, January 11th, the Vodafone internet strategy. The quote I used above is exactly how Vodafone phrased it.

Now, considering that no other single company has the international assets that GBLX has, I really can't think of any other way to interpret this. Along with all of the international assets, GBLX has one of only two permits by foreign companies to build in Hong Kong and thus into China. Hutchinson Asia Crossing (50% owned by GBLX) already has the fixed fiber in Hong Kong.

From the point of Vodafone, it also furthers them along in the Mannesmann deal. Mr. Li of Hutchinson Whampoa (sp) owns 10% of Mannesmann. By Vodafone announcing that GBLX (and Hutchinson Asia Crossing) will be the global bandwidth provider of choice, that would also entice Mr. Li and his 10% of Mannesmann to vote for the VOD/Mannesmann merger.

Along with the webhosting cababilities of GBLX, Vodafone would have the perfect alliance to fulfill their "single global Internet platform"

If anyone can name another company that could be the company Vodafone is referring to, I would like to hear it.

James Morrison"
