It would be interesting to see how many airlines and rail commpanies disappeared due to merger/acquisition vs. bankruptcy. In the networking industry, there are quit a bit fewer companies than 10 years ago, but it doesn't mean that they all went bust.

Wellfleet and Synoptics don't exist anymore, but they became Bay, which is now a part of Nortel.

Same with the Cascade->Ascend->LU history.

I think that the disappearing act in the nuts will be largely through M&A activities.....but, there will be many losers too.
