Yes, the homeless situation in SF has been shocking for a long time. Granted, much has to do with lowered priorities for mental illness care, reduced welfare, etc. But given that nationwide social landscape, I believe the homeless tend to congregate in a city like SF because of its social tolerance, generous civic services, and wonderful weather. They do exist. The question then becomes where do they choose to locate.

I love those. They are my favorite. And yes, it is for a very good cause, as it is one of my very favorite places. (My chauvinistic Seattle relatives just don't know what they're missing! <g>)
