You might check to see if your hard drive is nearly full.

The 100% processor usage at the time of the problem is a good clue if it is consistent. Do you monitor Free Memory too? [Edit] Just read your post again and you didn't say that the cursor problem coincides with cpu usage-spikes, so disregard.

Does it depend on how many apps you have running at the time?
