Confused about Datatec (DATC)...
Yes, Y2K took a bite out of IS budgets. Yes, networks are difficult to build and install. I'm talking about *real* networks that use lots of real equipment from the likes of Cisco, Nortel/Bay, IBM, etc. A quick read of the posting leads me to believe this company had a universal configuration application for network nodes: a golden egg indeed. A visit to their web page shows me they have apps which do management, installation, inventory, etc DOS and Windows machines.

I am surprised IBM would give a contract to this company unless an IBM customer explicitly requested, because as far as I can tell, Datatec is in direct competition with Tivoli - an IBM subsidiary.

One other point, a company like this should've done well BEFORE the Y2K problem. I mean, with all these companies getting ready for Y2K, they should've been upgrading software, applying Y2K fixes and so on, right? That's exactly what Datatec's workbench product would've been good for (as well as Tivoli's products).

Standard disclaimers apply, do your own DD, etc. :-)
