14. AOL REACHES DEAL WITH HEWLETT-PACKARD AND COMPAQ
America Online (AOL, $74) announced that it reached agreements with Hewlett-Packard (HWP, $104) and Compaq (CPQ, $28) to allow AOL members to access, send and receive their e-mail via HP and Compaq palm size PCs, including the HP Jornada and Compaq Aero.
COMMENT: We would have rather seen AOL cut a deal with the Palm Pilot, but this will do for now. Besides, this is only email. What we would like to see is a scaled down version of the AOL service for the Palm Pilot. That would definitely get our blood going. As for the HP "Jornada" and the Compaq "Aero," well, they are likely to end up as little more than also-rans. Do you guys remember Atari? Neither do we. |
