More info on Gateway,
1. PT's estimate of 270K Athlon CPU's/quarter based on annual system sales of 3.6M systems and capturing 30% of the 55% $1000-$1400 pricerange may even be slightly conservative. According to investor.gateway.com, Gateway shipped 3.54M systems in '98, so its gotta be 20% more now, although Q1 is generally weak.

2. Also from the press release above we find:

As for Y2K, the company said that concerns among businesses delayed sales in December, causing Gateway?s business-to-business sales to decline approximately 6 percent for the quarter. The Y2K fears appeared most prevalent among large businesses and government and education institutions, where sales declined approximately 15% in the quarter. However, Gateway's sales to small and mid-sized businesses -- one of its key target markets -- remained strong, increasing approximately 35%.

The significant thing here is that the small to mid-sized business markets will be the first to adopt the Athlon, since they generally don't care if Intel is inside, outside or sleeping.
