Williams Communications Closes Multi-Million Dollar Agreement With Adelphia Business Solutions
January 10, 2000 09:00 AM TULSA, Okla., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The network unit of Williams Communications, Inc. WCG , a leading international provider of telecommunications services and products for the carrier marketplace, has completed a multi-million dollar agreement to sell fiber on its nationwide fiber-optic network to Adelphia Business Solutions ABIZ , a national provider of integrated communication services to business customers. Under the terms of the transaction, Williams will receive $23 million for fiber to extend Adelphia's network. Williams will receive additional revenues spread over the 25-year term of the contract in return for providing Adelphia with collocation and ongoing network maintenance services.
The fiber acquired on the Williams Multi-Service Broadband Network(TM), will extend Adelphia's network primarily in the Western part of the United States in addition to select key Northeast segments.
"Williams Communications' advanced network is the ideal solution for companies like Adelphia that require high-speed bandwidth, flexible network architecture and right-of-way security to meet the growing demands of their customers," said Frank Semple, president of the Williams network.
Williams Communications is a recognized industry leader in providing innovative services and advances in fiber-optic engineering and construction. Ninety-six to 144 fibers are typically installed in every Williams network build with multiple conduits, leaving spare conduits open to meet future needs.
"This transaction with Williams Communications facilitates our national expansion by extending our fiber-optic network capacity into the western United States," said James Rigas, CEO of Adelphia Business Solutions. "These network segments will continue to allow us to offer high quality integrated communication services to businesses across the entire country."
Williams Communications' next-generation long-distance network is the fourth largest in the United States and is expected to total 33,000 route miles connecting 125 cities by the end of 2000. The fully integrated architecture of the Williams Multi-Service Broadband Network(TM) couples ATM core switching with advanced optical networking technologies to provide carriers with data, voice, video and Internet services. Williams Communications has received widespread industry recognition for its network architecture -- most recently the International Engineering Consortium's InfoVision award.
