I live in Rome, Italy. We now have a supplier of ADSL at very competitive rates, available in most parts of the city. The cost is about $100 a month, but since there are no time-connected charges with this service, it is also economically advantageous even in comparison to dumb dial-up. (Connect-time charging is the basic problem with internet on the continent.) Rome is not exactly a third-world city, yet at the same time, it is not New York in terms of infrastructure. In my opinion the fact that we can get xDSL now in middle Italy is indicative of the impending explosion on the continent of bandwidth supply and thus demand. Hence I am also in KPNQuest, Colt Telecom, Global Crossing. I made good money last year in AFCI but I have switched the equipment holding part of the portfolio over to NT since I do think size matters at this point, especially as overseas (from the US perspective!) gets more important.

Best regards from the Eternal City.
