dude, that gave me a heart attack this morning. Regarding my "opinion of media content companies", I'm assuming you're referring to my comments about Jacob's focus. Simply based on his past comments and the partial current list of his portfolio, Jacob will lean quite heavily towards media and content.

He appears reluctant to take a stake in B2B and infrastructure (I'll wait for the full portfolio list before to be sure). Because of the growth I anticipate for such subsectors, it will place a greater burden on him to add value via stock picking prowess within the media and content subsectors, if he misses the wave in these other high-growth areas.

The AOL and Time-Warner doesn't invalidate that line of reasoning. There's a lot of talk (from Henry Blodgett @ Merrill Lynch and Media Metrix) that Internet growth is slowing. That's a bunch of baloney. Thus, the continued strong growth of moving online will benefit all sectors. But managers who eschew infrastructure, B2B, and global exposure are poised to miss out on much of this.

As for the big deal, even if it wasn't the main reason for the deal the RoadRunner piece is what really gets me excited. Perhaps now AOL won't have to put all their non-wireless broadband chips on slow-as-hell RBOCs.

Also, we were talking about this stuff on the TiVo (a stock I wrote about during its IPO) thread:
