Yes, I have seen it a couple of times. It was pretty good, but I actually liked "Manhenter", which also involved Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Zerbe), better. I thought that it gave greater insight into the way in which the serial killer thought, and the dreadful impact of trying to imagine it and "empathize" on the part of the agent (William Peterson). Although Anthony Hopkins is always good, I thought that it was a little too campy a performance, mainly, I admit, because of the script, which made Lecter "cooler" than the first flick. I also thought the problems that the female agent faced due to her background and gender were not elaborated enough, but indicated. Thus, encounters with Lecter that are meant to be deeply disturbing mainly come off as rude, as when he comments on her shoes. The erotic overtones are too strong under the circumstances, and one half expects, in the end, that she will join him in the Caribbean, he is just so smart and charming a monster........I thought it was over rated, although I would have given it a 7 (on the 10 scale) for sure, and perhaps an 8......... |
