AFLAC Selected Top Insurance Company to Work for in America by Fortune Magazine for the Second Year in a Row
COLUMBUS, Ga., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- AFLAC has been named the top insurance company for the second year in a row on Fortune magazine's listing of ``100 Best Companies to Work for in America.' The article, which appears in the January 10, 2000, issue, was released today.

In response to Fortune's announcement, AFLAC President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel P. Amos said: ``Being named the top insurance company to work for in America by Fortune means a great deal to everyone here at AFLAC. Our employees take pride in their work, and we try to reward them for all they do to make AFLAC successful. As we enter the new century, we will continue to strive to make AFLAC an even better place to work.'

Fortune's selection is based on each company's ranking on three evaluative scales. The first component is the Hewitt People Practices Inventory(TM), which gathers information about company philosophies, policies, programs and practices affecting people. The second component is the Great Place to Work© Trust Index¸, an employee attitude survey. Randomly-selected employees are asked to complete confidential surveys covering credibility, pride, fairness, respect and camaraderie. The third component is the Great Place to Work© Culture Audit© questionnaire designed to reflect special, unique or unusual qualities about a company's culture and what attracts people to the company and makes them want to stay. AFLAC ranked number 18 overall on Fortune's listing.

Fortune cited AFLAC's on-site child-care center, which cares for 280 children, including grandchildren of employees, as one of AFLAC's unique benefits. In addition, in June 1998 AFLAC granted all employees stock options, which have appreciated 52% since that time.

AFLAC Incorporated (NYSE: AFL - news) is an international holding company. A Fortune 500 company, AFLAC insures more than 40 million people worldwide. It is the leading underwriter of supplemental insurance marketed at the worksite in the United States, offering policies to employees at over 140,000 payroll accounts. AFLAC was ranked as the top insurance company in Forbes Global Business & Finance magazine's 1999 ``A-plus' list of the world's best companies. AFLAC is a component of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index and ranks as the most popular stock held by individual investors who are members of the NAIC (National Association of Investors Corporation).
