Paul, Barrett has had many successes - and a few failures.

I never worked at Intel, or in the semiconductor industry in the 80s, but I read a lot. Barrett is given credit in the book "Inside Intel" with the "copy everywhere" philosophy and implementation, and with driving Intel's fabs and manufacturing to get the yields and quality back up to where they should be. I guess not many people know today that the Japanese took away the world lead in yields and quality in the 80's and Intel could actually have gone belly up if they hadn't fixed this, and gotten out of DRAM.
