....The idea was not to make the case that Clinton is a perfect person (Lord knows that would be a thankless job), but to make sure that he comes across as a good president. I always think of Andrew Jackson in this respect. Jackson was a murderer, a demagogue, a brute, a racist and corrupt to boot. But, venerated by nearly two centuries of Democrats as the founder of their party, he is considered to have been a good president. Isn't that what the history books say? Calvin Coolidge, on the other hand, was a highly moral man and highly competent public servant, but the history books tell us that he was a mediocre, if not downright bad, president. The old saw that history is written by the victors ought to be revised to say that history is written by the history professors--liberal history professors. So Clinton stands a good chance of achieving his second priority....http://www.suntimes.com/output/novak/novak09a.html
