Next, if I have been giving the government money for almost 40 years and they have been telling me that I would start getting some back at a specific age -- do you think the government is "pandering" to me if they do what they said they'd do?
Lizzie, I DO think a vast amount of SS is a welfare system. Regardless whether we ever agree on what part is "welfare", why not merge the system with income tax, so people will know what their bill is when they vote.
If a union or corporate pension system operated like SS, all the people running it would be behind bars. And, BTW, what do you think would happen if, say, the UAW, withheld pension benefits from retired members who were well-off?
If you ever tire of trying to deny me a shot at the dole, tell me more about your A&C visit to Africa. How long -- where did you go/stay or whatever you liked or didn't like about the trip.
