What sort of jacket? If it really was a fleece jacket, it's improbable that she was killed while wearing it: nothing but a very serious knife would cut through it. If she wasn't wearing it, then probably she wasn't outdoors, or in a car, either.
But a problem with the jacket: if she hadn't been wearing one earlier in the evening, then it's logical to assume that she'd been carrying a bag or backpack to hold her wallet and other necessary stuff. If she had been wearing it, she might simply have stuffed her wallet in a pocket. In that case, why would she have removed it once she got home? It's just not something you'd do. (As I type, my own wallet is still in my jacket pocket from an earlier trip to the store. If I were to go out again, I'd leave it where it is unless I were changing jacket or planning to carry a bag.)
We need to know:
--Whether she was carrying a bag earlier at the pizza party.
--Where she normally carried her Yale ID, which she'd have needed to cross campus to turn in the keys.
Since she didn't take the wallet with her when she went out to return the keys, whatever she was planning evidently didn't presuppose a need for it.
Also: if she intended to go on to meet Jim after dropping off the keys, why didn't she have what I'd consider necessary stuff with her? Remember, I'm an academic. If I go to discuss a project with someone, I take a notebook, notes, and a draft of whatever I'm working on. Doesn't matter if they already have a copy; better for everyone involved to have one. |
