Some of his best friends were Trotskyites, purging came naturally to them. Just be happy that conservatives didn't all wind up with fake British accents.

I think Rand is disparaged by conservatives because she was so militantly atheistic. Her main value is to wean liberals away from leftism. One can travel only so far with her. I thoroughly enjoyed The Fountainhead, though. I think her power as a writer gradually declined after that book came out.

I used to have several copies of The Objectivist newsletter from the mid sixties. I remember in one of those, Greenspan wrote an article saying how we need to remain on the gold standard and how crucial it was that we do so. I wouldn't read too much into their friendship. His thinking seems to have evolved somewhat.
