My point is that if the Jaz can do everything that a HD can do and IF it is less expensive, why do you need or want a fixed hard drive.

Sure with only one removable drive, you still can't back up very easily, but the hard drive can't either or at all.

Another way of asking my question is, IF the prices were exactly the same, when and why would you prefer a hard drive.

Of course, Tom, in his post on this subject did say that the Hard Drive is more robust. If we can get past this issue, doesn't that mean that there is no rationale for the fixed hard dirve?

I can see most people saying that is two very large ifs, price and durability and may be very far down the road. If Iomega really gets very aggressive, is that really far down the road?

There are many advantages to having a removable drive. Tom in his post mentions a few and you mention a few in your post. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. Other people will come up with a lot of other uses that you could only get with a removable drive.
