Doug, I doubt you will get an answer out of them. I will tackle it with my limited knowledge in that area, hasn't stop me in the past, has it? <g>

TI is using DSP, not ASICs as you can see from the article. DSP solutions are easier to design then ASICs. I do not know about manufacturing cost. IN the past DSP chip solution, while worked, but were not the most cost efficient means to produce a cell phone. Not only were they larger, they drew more power in an already power constraint product and tight area. I have read the above will be changing. Has the above happen with TI announcement. I can't ans. that. If a manufacture choose TI DSP solution, QCOM will just get royalties, not income from the sale of ASICs. But remember this, Dr. J has said that QCOM is years ahead anyone else in there ASIC design. Has that announcement change that picture? That I also do not know. Hopefully by posting this post, someone will like Clark, or engineer, will chime in and correct and add to what I have posted.
