No, Right NOW ADSK is not threatened by Bentley for market share. The movement in the CAD industry is away from general CAD technology to much more indusrty or displine specific applications. Bentley is currently building a net work of strategic partners (GeoPak, HMR Inc., ect.). These companies specialize as well as lead their engineering feild in CAD applications. Bentley is not inventing new technology, but rather aquiring it and extending their CAD family of technology to included the best available technology.

With this said the real race is set. With this technology, either developed or aquired, who can be the first to incorroporate it into the object world. Objective tech. is the future. A line is no longer just a dumb line, but rather a line might be a wall with all the intellegent attached to it. Objective technology shared over the WWW by engineers and architects working on the same project at the same time from different locations. Who ever does this first will dominate the new market.

I do not think ADSK is fading company, but I do not think you will se the dominate the market the way they did in the 80's. They are going to have to move over as Bentley takes a significant chunk of the market. When you look at companies with 50 or greater seates of high end CAD packages the market is dominated by MicroStation. ADSK still ownes the small install base (1 or 2 seats) and that is where their dominance remains strong.

I do think the ADSK stock is undervalued and will rise a little, but market dominance is slowly slipping away.
