Are you impressed that Unisys actually sold something to a non-descript insurance firm or that these were Intel based systems? large Intel based systems have been sold for years by Unisys, NCR, Sequent, Data General - pretty bad business given the track records of these companies except for Unisys and NCR which are moving into being services companies (like DEC...). Now as a note these Intel systems run SVR4 Unix, Dynix and MPRAS so lets not confuse these with NT servers - Unisys has a huge installed base of minicomputers that they have been migrating to Intel/Unix systems - i suspect they have good volume since Unisys has a very good track record with their customers. However there hasnt been a port of software onto Unisys unix in say about 5 years! So while Penn Insurance can run their old cobol application on these new servers thats about it. Unisys had been hoping that they could sell NT to their minicomputer companies and not worry about application ports but NT has only delivered a new name in 4 years and wont meet customers expectations of scalability and reliability for many years if ever - a real bind.
