yes. I do buy-writes in IRA. NP in margin. Wrote 170P last week. I'm considering covering and moving to a higher strike. Volatility has been high. It was higher late Dec and last wk. I don't do LEAPS; I write front month usually. but "similar securities" I assume you mean index-like stocks... check out the S&P sector spyders. also the index options are ok for doing NP's... just realize they have much higher multiples, and diff characteristics if they are euro-style expiration (which most are).
