The VOD announcement is not concerned with one air interface over another, rather what is being interfaced too: A platform hosted by IBM, with INSP providing "content and commerce" services. INSP is already a message clearing house enabling messages to be sent between users of different air-interfaces from what I understand.

The data transfer mechanism is "WAP-enabled internet-ready smartphones". VOD says "A key strength for Vodafone AirTouch is mobile data technology, with examples including the scale of Vodafone AirTouch's UK packet radio network, its clear lead in GSM data through Europolitan and its unmatched experience with CDMA through AirTouch." CDMA is mentioned and WILL be involved.
