Silicon Graphics Forms Start-Up Kasenna Inc. 01/11/2000 Dow Jones News Service (Copyright (c) 2000, Dow Jones & Company, Inc.) MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Silicon Graphics Inc. ( SGI ) completed the spin off of SGI Mediabase into a new start-up company, named Kasenna Inc. In a press release Tuesday, Silicon Graphics said it will hold a minority stake in the start-up company; and has secured additional funding from venture capital firms U.S. Venture Partners, Alloy Ventures and Entertainment Media Ventures that will enable Kasenna to further develop the MediaBase streaming server software. MediaBase was developed by Silicon Graphics to address all aspects of media serving - including streaming delivery services, networking, content and operations management - all from a Web-based console. It supports all leading media streaming standards, including RealSystem G2, QuickTime and higher bit-rate MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. The company said the spin off of MediaBase enables it to focus on its core competencies. -Daniel Martinez; Dow Jones
