Jill - In 1987 Mr G put up interest rates twice at .5% each time. Very very quickly we had the 1987 Oct crash. I don't think he wants to do a repeat performance.

There are always people who reakon that the World is about to end. I have been like that at times. I don't think the Fed works like that and I don't think one man takes the decision. The American economy affects everyone in the US ( not to mention everywhere else) and I think the Fed doesn't act in a rash way when the entire Country's livelyhood is at stake.

Gently is the way especially when as now the markets are nervous and volatile.
