CHICAGO, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Implied volatility stayed high on Monday in options on Advanced Micro Devices Inc. as the stock gained ground heading into earnings.
Implied vols for the January 35s stood at roughly 101 percent. "It's been that way for a few days," a market maker at the Chicago Board Options Exchange said of the high implied vols. "There is nothing but buyers." The stock's one-month historical volatility stood at roughly 59 percent.
Turnover in the multiple-listed option also remained hefty on Monday, and by 11:12 a.m. CST (1712 GMT) some 10,650 calls and 2,350 puts had traded in just the January and February expiries on the four U.S. options exchanges combined.
On Friday, about 30,200 total options traded compared to a recent daily average of around 7,100 contracts.
"Earnings are next week," a market maker at the Pacific Exchange said by way of explaining the high vols and volume.
