Hyundai Electronics Industries said that it signed a contract with the
Chinese Ministry of Radio, Film and Television to supply transmission
equipment for satellite broadcasting to the governments of Anhui and
Jiangsu Province. The deal is valued at some $500,000.
The satellite broadcasting equipment, to be delivered to China under
the contract, was developed by TV/COM Co., a US affiliate of Hyundai
Electronics Industries , in compliance with the DVB MPEG (digital
video broadcasting motion picture expert group) standard, Hyundai
said.
China recognizes only the specifications suggested by Hyundai and
Philips of the Netherlands as a standard for the equipment, which it
will distribute to its 25 provinces to build a nationwide
satellite broadcasting network.
Last September, Hyundai Electronics Industries agreed to ship 3.6
million units of set-top boxes, a satellite receiver for TV viewing,
to Nethold over a five year period.
Nethold is a leading pay-TV company covering Europe, Africa and the
Middle East.
