I see, and I did not mean to say the sense for strategy is a component of character, intelligence and experience. I meant to say it results when these components find themselves well integrated in a person or group. Keyes seems to me an intellect with conviction, integrity and sufficient experience to do extraordinarily well when given opportunity. Of course it is difficult to judge him very well from such a distance, but as this is the case with all the candidates, Keyes gets the lip of approval. The others get a scowl.

Your point of his having never won a political office and other such victories is well taken, and had I yet faith that our government players could offer what is needed in this area I would agree with you. But my faith in the current system is such that I sincerely doubt any experience it offers will be worth the corruption it causes. It is better the next president come from outside the system. It would be a virtue, my dear friend, not a curse. America will hardly receive a noble leader elsewise.

The country has arguably survived Bill Clinton. It will certainly not falter under Keyes. In fact it will flourish. The other candidates, even Gary Bauer, will offer absolutely nothing new, will present no courage, will call you to no real virtue (indeed they are powerless to do so) and will effectively refer not a whit to our moral heritage. With them you will always be stuck with the same irresponsible proposals that have become a hallmark of American government.
