Hola Miguel,

Re: all players want eyeballs, the prices charged to consumers will drop down to where one price buys all services. I'm talking years out."

Dude, you are tawkin' eternity. I just upgraded my cable TV connectivity to 'digital' and two things are obvious. The General Instruments DCT-2000 and it's ancillary remote contol aren't even remotely ready for prime time. I regard myself as somewhat capable. I install my own PCI cards and software, I dominate my new stereo system and advanced camera, and when I meet GI's interface, I turn into a complete doofus. Not only that, but I go to my local CATV monopolist and the staff there are as clueless as I am.

I'm not whining to get sympathy as a victim. I don't buy into that particular American dystopia. But I say this to let folks know that there are some non-trivial issues ahead.
I'm tawkin' getting locked in the digital audio mode and having the controls totally nonresponsive.

As regards to what the MSOs are really up to: Mike, get over this 'one price buys all services' nonsense. The most amazing thing to me as I had the new STB and remote explained to me by the tech was the astonishing number of ways that the MSO wanted to nick me for Pay-per-view experiences. Lord know that basic cable and even the package I bought with digital are totally lame. You have two choices, the Net - for intelligent discussion like this, or pay per view. Where Hollywood hides all the goods. I'm sticking with the Net. I just am trying to figure out what Case and Levin are scheming on to degrade this experience.

Hey, It's only rock 'n roll, Ray
