Doug,

If one compares the size and scope of Auodesk and Bentley they seem like apples and oranges. Three million vs 200K customers (seats, I guess). Bentley's AEC market focus vs. ADSK's leadership in virtually all secors of mechanical design automation. Also, compare management team. Bentley's is the Bentley family, the father and several sons, and a few sales guys from Intergraph (who put Bentley on the map). ADSK's CEO is formerly XVP of Sun Microsystems, and has attracted a diverse team and board. Also, ADSK seems to be leading the way to collaborative design over the Internet. Check their press releases.

I don't disagree with fact that Bentley might be a winning IPO, but if ADSK's only boogieman is Bentley then we should be taking a very serious look at what will make this stock go up.

Ken

From Bentley's corporate backgrounder:

"Bentley Systems, Inc. is a worldwide leader in engineering software products, user services, and overall quality. The company now serves over 200,000 professionals in building engineering, GeoEngineering, and mechanical engineering."

From Autodesk's:

"Today, more than three million customers use Autodesk software and component technologies for tasks ranging from architectural design, mechanical engineering, and facilities management to computer-game development, forensic animation, and digital imaging for major motion pictures."
