Do you consider the story could have been made up to constitute an alibi for someone the witness knows? To place SJ in a place where she could not have been murdered at the time when she actually was in a different place with her killer?

If this were a mystery novel, and not the story of a real crime, I'd say "yes" enthusiastically. But I really don't believe that, though of course it's a possibility. I think it most likely that the witness was genuinely convinced she'd seen Suzanne, though on the other hand she might just have been an attention-seeker. As you'll have gathered, what bothers me most is her description of the people near Jovin. Who remembers stuff like that well after the moment has passed? She must have seen hundreds of people that night.

As I said a few posts ago, what I think is important about the witness's testimony is that if she didn't really see Suzanne, then it's almost certain that S was never in College St in the first place, but started to walk back home across campus, as she'd come.
