XML is nothing more than the equivalent of ASCII text files containing data structures (i.e. similar to C/C++ include files). And, of course, parsers that sit on the client/server that that do the interpretation. It eliminates the need for a binary specific format along with byte ordering.

The thinking that this is some newfangled technology that will revolutionalize the world is ridiculous. The interpretation of the data structures via an understood contract between the communication parties can be done with any means, be it binary or text.

Heck, you can write any ascii text file to be used as a description of your data format. Its like thought, represented in digital format in a text file passed between client/server.

Don't bother getting caught up in the XML hype.... HTML companies that developed tools never went anywhere either.
Neither will XML companies who are selling no more than Notepad editors with a parser.
