Petz,

<Athlon price drops> HUGE! Based on this, I think AMD must be planning on selling 3M Athlons in Q1, rather than 2M. I don't understand the huge gap between 650 and 700 MHz ($299 to $499), but then again, these single vendor prices are like futures prices and are subject to change.

It seems the Athlon prices shown in my table www4.techstocks.com
are for real. Another dealer "Lynn Computer products" started listing Athlons at similar prices with ETA late Jan.

Even the Athlon 800 is currently listed at a lower price ($799 compared to $899)!

These price cuts are huge. I think, as Chuck pointed out, AMD is preparing for 3M units if not more for this quarter and preparing to capture more market share.

I believe AMD is also sensing low volumes of Coppermines at higher speeds which may last a couple more months. ASPS may increase if we see lower volumes of 600MHz and below.

I also see these price cuts as the first step in AMD taking control over setting the high end CPU prices.

Thanks for putting this table together every week.

You're welcome.
