Since Novell is primarily a networking / software company, I'd think they'll require capital to support expansion into the storage end of the business. These days, companies tend to embark on such endeavors via "teaming arrangements". Reading between the lines, the post below indicates they may be "teamed up" with a couple other companies & venture capital houses:

However, you've partly answered my inquiry. At first glance, it appeared they may compete "head to head". However, I can't escape (with my limited knowledge) the idea that they must compete to some extent -- Novell wants to go network storage, and MTCI has RAID technology. Assuming that network storage involves fault tolerant capabilities, how could the two companies *not* compete in that area?
