I don't see it as "heresy" in all cases. Many denominations were started because God found some faithful people who had determined in their hearts to go on with God. Much to the surprise and most often the dismay of men, God will not be limited. He may start a great revival and have things flowing a certain way and then he may go in a completely opposite direction. Does he do this to confuse us? No, he does it so that only those who have their hearts in tune to Him will go on with him.

I'm reminded of the children of Israel, for forty years they lived in tents and moved only when God gave the command. They may be in a place for only a day or two when all of a sudden God tells them to get up and get moving; Now I'm sure there were those who had just pitched their tents and were praying in their hearts "Oh that we could just stay here so we could be comfortable, this moving around so often is just too stressful".

Those people didn't have much choice, they had to move on or be left behind to die in the wilderness (of which they all did but two). Nowadays people can find a church that they are comfortable with and close their ears to the further calling of God. They feel that since their doctrine is correct God won't make too many demands upon them and so refuse to hear the sound of the trumpet demanding them to go further on.
