For reasons which are beyond my comprehension stock brokers in Japan love to add the sentence "Foreigners are buying it." to their recommendations. I think it's fair to say that Japanese individual investors as a group have never heard of Goldman Sachs. But the information that some big US brokerage is recommending the stock is influential, even if you've never heard the name of the US broker before.
Anyway the Japanese fund managers all know about GS and presumably that's the most important fact.
