Hitachi And Qualcomm In High Data Rate Deal

Hitachi (Japan), electronics conglomerate, has unveiled a
partnership with Qualcomm (US), telecoms equipment
manufacturer, to market the latter's High Data Rate (HDR)
mobile data comms system.

Hitachi will invest Y10 bil in developing and producing HDR
infrastructure equipment. The equipment will offer access to
data and voice services via mobile devices. Hitachi is targeted
to have Y150 billion HDR sales for the FY to March 2002, vs
Y190 billion forecast sales for the whole telecoms group for the
FY to March 2000.

Qualcomm's HDR system is based on CDMA technology.
