Lynn, Re: Wow, is this OT EMC in line with a conversation I was having earlier today via PM with someone on another thread. Some people here at SI, especially on some of the high flier threads, are so strung out on margin I don't know how they can sleep. One person I know was maxed-out on margin _before_ Christmas and at the maximum on **credit** cards, too. Cash had been withdrawn for increasing their options purchases.
Although many people have scorn for stock brokers and take great pride in handling their own investments online, I am starting to think all people new to the market should start with a broker at a reputable concern. Sure the commissions might be higher, but I can not imagine a reputable broker permitting clients to pull some of the rechid investment stunts many people pull on their own.
May be a crass thing to say, but: Caveat Emptor. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there. Greed is, well, enough cliches.
On a more positive note, I saw part of an EMC ad on CNBC this morning. It's a good thing. I mean, the average CNBC watcher isn't about to go out and try to buy an EMC enterprise storage system at Walmart today. But, I think the Sun Micro .COM, IBM ebusiness, Cisco Are You ready, etc. ads aren't aimed at Joe or Jane Q. Public either. But, I think the awareness factor is important whether a procurement manager, or Joe or Jane Q. Public is watching.
