Regarding the short term price performance of Intel
John,
As a follower of Intel's short term price, here's my theory.
Price performance really doesn't depend on Thursday's earnings, since that is history and was discounted, rightly or wrongly, last quarter. The management comments will count some, but the really big deal, IMO, are the price changes scheduled for January 23.
I noted with some interest that when Intel recently announced their fastest Celeron, they matched AMD MHZ for MHZ and dollar for dollar.
If, at the next decrease, Intel attacks AMD on the price front, we're in trouble and need to be nimble. The analysts will go nuts and the stock price will respond accordingly to the downside.
If modest price decreases are made, we should continue to enjoy prosperity.
Some should already know the magnitudes of these price changes and may be willing to share their thoughts.
