Well, I'm not crazy about SS, and I think it could use reforming, but I don't believe privatization is really the answer either since that more or less removes the concept of "safety net". But I'm open for suggestions in general.

My big issue wrt arguing with Michael is that I feel one group of people, who I refer to in general as "the elderly" chose to solve every financial problem they ever had by relegating their taxes to another group - in this case it was those that were younger than they were.

Property taxes were becoming too high... how did they solve it - they voted to freeze taxes FOR THEM. SS going bust and needs a cash infusion, how do they solve the problem - raise taxes on the young ONLY. There were other solutions such as raising the retirement age to 70 which should have been a no-brainer but this group never does whats fair - they only do what is in their best interest irrespective of anybody else.
