Actually, as I expected, that is a good response. My observation about Bauer's attractiveness had more to do with his personality, of which his looks are but one element, than his looks merely as such. He seems to "narrow", too "pinched", to most people. I, in fact, was shocked to be so moved by his speech on the occasion I mentioned, since I expected it to be more hectoring. Interestingly, he is a Roman Catholic, although of a very orthodox disposition, and "evangelical" in style. Keyes (an Episcopalian, by the way) does have greater breadth of mind, however. He used to room with Bill Kristol at Harvard, and Kristol ran his first senate campaign, before hooking up with Quayle. Keyes is a modified Straussian, that is,his love of a certain interpretation of classical philosophy is informed by his religious faith. I will grant that between Bush and Keyes, Keyes is almost certainly the better man.......
