I'm beginning to wonder whether the telcos aren't in danger of becoming an endangered species.

That has underlay my visits to this thread off and on for the last year. Convergence is happening. There are presently a lot of points of entry into the home (or small business). In time, there will be only one point of entry, I believe. That might be the telco. Or it might be the cableco. Or, it could be a new entrant that isn't even here yet. More and more my betting is on the new entrant, because of the sclerosis of the incumbents. And that's why I mentioned HDR.

Given their crummy service to date, the only hope the telcos like BEL have is if they can become ubiquitous providers of broadband before the competitors are ready. So far, they're failing that test.
