BOMBARDIER CRJ TO ENTER JAPANESE AIRLINE SERVICE IN MID-2000
JANUARY 12, 2000
TORONTO, ONTARIO--
--- FAIR INC. AIRLINE TO BECOME FIRST CRJ OPERATOR IN JAPAN
Bombardier Aerospace announced today that The Fair Inc. of Tokyo has ordered two new Canadair Regional Jet(r) aircraft for its regional airline operations scheduled to commence in mid-2000.
Established last year, The Fair Inc. will acquire and operate two CRJs obtained from a European operator. It will add two new aircraft from Bombardier in its third year of operations in 2002. The first two 50-seat jets, based in Sendai, will serve business oriented routes such as Hiroshima-nishi/Haneda.
"The CRJ* has proven to be particularly effective on routes with high business travel potential where speed and frequency are significant determinants to successful revenue growth," said Jun Okawara, president and chief executive officer of The Fair Inc.
"We are delighted that the Canadair Regional Jet has been selected by The Fair Inc. for its airline operations in the important Japanese regional airline marketplace. This decision builds upon the already established presence of Bombardier Q Series Dash 8(r) turboprop aircraft in the country," said Steven A. Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft.
The Fair Inc. and All Nippon Airways (ANA) have reached a co-operative agreement for the successful commencement of CRJ operation. Under terms of the agreement, ANA will provide The Fair Inc. with assistance in flight operations, flight crew provision, maintenance and engineering services and other areas.
This order continues a growing trend of success for Bombardier products in Asia-Pacific. In the past year, eight operators have purchased seven CRJ and 11 Q Series aircraft for use in the region.
The Canadair Regional Jet is available in two seating capacities, including the 50-seat CRJ100* and CRJ200* models and the 70-seat CRJ700*. The ability of Bombardier to offer a complete family of regional jet aircraft to the regional airline industry is a unique advantage of the Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft product line.
