I was with you up until you wrote "My earnest hope for all of you is a wish that you can quit seeking approval from people who have no interest in cultivating your acquaintance or your opinions. "

I don't recall seeking approval from anybody who has no interest incultivating my acquaintance or my opinions. Can you point me to the message or messages you were basing that comment on?

I still occasionally respond to posts by one person who claims to have me on Ignore. I do so not to get approval or to annoy or even to communicate with that person, since I assume they won't read my messages, but because they are part of an ongoing topic I'm interested in and there's no quick and easy way in SI to respond to a thought and keep the continuity of the ideas intact without using the respond key. If SI would implement a "respond to this message generically" feature I would use it. Otherwise, I'm stuck either effectively dropping out of the discussion or trying some clumsy way of responding which prevents anyone who comes in in the middle from going back to see the background of the discussion.

I'm sure this issue will arise with increasing frequency as more and more people put more and more people on Ignore.

Personally, I will probably never use Ignore. The "next" button works fine for me.

Edit: P.S. It's interesting to note that on my brief contact it seems to me that most of the people who have said they are using or like the ignore feature are women. This is based on a very limited sample, and of course could be totally wrong. But it struck me as interesting.
