As a long-time subscriber to MT, I feel compelled to weigh in on this discussion of the newsletter and intellectual property, etc.

I am disappointed in BB's failure to recognize the changing environment. Maybe ten years ago, his readers would not have known that some received the newsletter on Monday; others on Tuesday; and yet others later. How would we have known?? But today, the internet and discussion boards like this and others makes such information widely visible. So, with so many people curious about the content of the newsletter, and such a swift means to share the information, it is foolish to think that it won't be posted. Especially when it was obvious that some knew the secret and others didn't. And that is the heart of the matter, IMO: it was the great anticipation that drove this incident.

So THAT is what BB needs to think about. In the routine world of monthly newsletters where readers pay $185 per year to be soothed about their mutual funds holdings, I think BB has a good product. But, under non-routine conditions, that world changes. I think Bob took a big risk sending such news out under his normal "snail mail" method. When renewal time comes around, I will be looking for a more modern product--one that is delivered by e-mail. The delay may not have cost me any money...but the fact that I had to wonder for several days is unacceptable.
