Better prepare yourself to get "Kelley-ed" after that last post <G>

As you may know, I am refering to the survey which someone linked on the thread in past few days....The survey, 75 CIOs (supposedly) is fairly recent, was done by a reputable firm (don't remember the name), and is talking about purchases in calender 2000...But we all should take such surveys for what they are worth (remember all the lockdown 2000 surveys that, in spring of last year, predicted a much bigger hit...)...Lehman Brothers and others are still looking foolish on those...

Rudedog, let me ask you....I was under the impression that competition in the corporate PC space may be EASING up in past months (and possibly going forward)....that the under-bidding (by others than Dell) had eased.....that IBM/HP were likely just taking the profitable sales.....a bit of detente, if you will....letting everyone (Dell included) make better margins, but also letting Dell increase market share (somewhat) unabaited..... and that Dell was no longer pursuing a "(way) lowest cost alternative".......Dell has been (also) relying on the brand to help sell (a less than rock bottom cost)....a strategy in which, by the way, I think makes sense...Dell, I think, has improved the "brand" mightly in the past couple years...what have you seen/heard....I was hoping this may mean better margins in the year to come...

Also, what do think of the impact of Dell's recent market shares gains (since 1998) re: Intel chip pricing.....With each % gain in market share, I would think they are getting a better and better deal from Intel..and as they approach Compaq in total unit sales (overall)...they are creating an additional cost advantage (or better said) narrowing an (pretty big) advantage that Compaq historically owned....I would think the same applies across the board with all their suppliers..ie, as the volumes go up, Dell gets a better per unit cost (not talking here, of course, of spot market DRAM <G>)...Wouldn't this be another complication for Compaq?

About a year ago or so, you posted (something to the effect) that, since Dell is ordering B-T-O, but Compaq carries Intel's inventory (big allotments at specific times) that Compaq gets better pricing (for the same unit volume) because of Compaq's additional complication of carrying inventory (or something to that effect)...Care to recap?

In line yet for the season NFL tix? Houston Tamales? Houston Hurricanes? Houston Silicon Chicks <G>...ah forget it....
