IMO, the major problem on forums like this is the way people view them.. Many , if not most of the "old timers" view them as "closed clubs" of which they have intellectual and editorial liberty to censure and restrict all who enter.
I being a freer spirit, view them as an "open forum" to pop in or out at my whims and wishes to comment or banter for entertainment and editorial purposes. And not to be there every day grinding it out. A free wheeling editorial page, if you will.
OR, It's like a neighborhood bar, where the same old regulars are there chewing the fat, night after night.. I drop in have a beer, want to strike up a conversation by commenting on something I think is important. They ignore me while staring in their beer sit there blowing smoke up each other's behinds.
.. I leave and try again the next night, with the same results.. So I try something different.. A little more incinderary, like, if it was in a Texas ranch town .. and the "Boys" were carrying a little extra over their belt buckles, I'd say, "boy I'm glad Ophrah won" .. That red meat sure doesn't do anything for your health.. ""
Well, here you can escape with your life.. so it's easier to "fire em up".
So being what I am and not always wishing to be in "the comfort zone" of a Private Club or the same neighborhood bar
night after night.. I will bar hop and thread hop as I wish.. I'm not saying that one way is better than the other, I'm just saying it is the way I think it is..
NOW on the 2nd Thought, I do have a prejudice AGAINST private clubs, because they are sometimes PREJUDICE. I think we had some problems and still have some REAL Societal problem because of them.
Anyway I will continue to bar hop and/or thread hop as I continue through cyper space.
