Well, retail notebooks must come from a different planet because AMD has led Intel in marketshare from June - September. (I don't have any newer data.)

Salespeople.

Seriously. The average new computer buyer who doesn't know much about computers and doesn't know much about Intel or AMD or Compaq or HP asks the salesperson their opinion and use that input as part of their decision.
