A fellow traveller! I was a french horn player for many years. Started in high school -- was a trumpeter and not a very good one, but my high school orchestra teacher, who was incredibly talented and dedicated, switched me to horn, and I love him for it. Mario Trezza -- only one of three HS teachers I still remember by name. He had us playing symphony and other classical works in HS -- got me into a community orchestra. In my junior and senior years I was the first chair horn for the all state orchestra (Pennsylvania), was offered a position in the Buffalo symphony right out of HS (at the time they were sort of a farm team for the majors -- Philadelphia, Cleveland, NY), but decided to go to college instead. Played semi-professionally for about 10 years, then purely amateur, until I moved to San Juan Island where I had no orchestra to play with, so haven't played it for years. But if I ever move back to where there is a symphony, I'll pick it up again!
Thanks for the opening to trapise down memory lane. |
