All, article in this mornings WSJ, "Reversing Course, Home PC Prices Head Higher. A few key points (to my thinking):

- Average sales price of a PC has risen from under $800 to a six month high of $844 in December.

- According to WSJ, price hikes are nor driven by component cost, but by reduced competition. IBM, NEC and Packard Bell pulled out of the retail PC market, they accounted for 33.2% of sales, leaving Compaq and HP with the power to raise prices.

- They implied that HP and Compaq would tolerate lower unit sales for higher prices/profits.

It's an interesting read, if anyone has access to WSJ interactive they might want to post the article here.
